What Causes Sunken Eyes? 12 Common Causes (You Should Know)

Smoking

Decades of studies and research have long revealed the damage that smoking causes to the human body. Smoking has been identified as the culprit in the diagnosis of cancer, respiratory diseases, cardiovascular diseases, and even stroke.

A recent study revealed that smoking degrades collagen and facial structure, resulting in physical changes that make one look older. Smoking tobacco is also believed to hasten the appearance of wrinkles, make the skin lose elasticity, cause premature eye bags, deep wrinkles, and sagging skin, and darken and hollow the skin under the eyes.

Smoking is also believed to be one cause of vasoconstriction—the physical narrowing of the blood vessels resulting in difficulties in delivering oxygenated blood to different body parts. Because of vasoconstriction from smoking, sexual activity becomes more difficult, and healing and nutrient delivery become harder for the blood vessels. Plus, it makes one look substantially older, more tired, and sadder than they are.

Unlike allergies, however, it takes so much more than simply quitting to reverse the damages that smoking has caused and to restore a more youthful appearance.
