Blepharitis
Blepharitis is an inflammation of the eyelids. It usually affects both eyes along the edges of the eyelids. Blepharitis is strikingly similar to stye, often being the more serious counterpart. It is a chronic condition that is difficult to treat. Moreover, it is unsightly and uncomfortable. But it usually doesn’t cause permanent damage to vision.
A stye can develop by having blepharitis as it develops similarly. Blepharitis develops when the base of the eyelashes gets clogged. However, this can continue deeper into the glands causing a blocked oil gland. A blocked oil gland allows bacteria to fester and cause a stye.
The swelling and redness are caused by pus and pressure building up inside the clogged gland. Blepharitis is said to have symptoms such as itchiness in the eyes, swelling, greasy eyelids, and watery eyes. These symptoms are also prominent in styes. It enables different inflammations to spread due to irritation and scratching of itches. Blepharitis can lead to stye due to the number of symptoms present in the condition.
