Nausea
Nausea is a stomach discomfort generally accompanied by the urge to vomit. It’s a symptom more than a disease and can be prevented easily in many cases. It can also be triggered by various factors, including conditions like GERD or a stroke, bacterial or viral infections, specific medications like chemotherapy, motion sickness, and ulcer. In most cases, episodes of nausea are short and go away by themselves.
However, it’s best to seek immediate medical attention if feelings of nausea persist or are accompanied by symptoms like severe chest pain or compression, intense headaches or jaw pain, sweating, and discomfort in the left arm. This is because these are common signs of a heart attack. Often, the most effective way of relieving nausea is by treating its underlying cause. For example, if it’s motion sickness, you can use medications like dimenhydrinate or an antihistamine.
On the other hand, if the nausea is caused by a medical condition, treating it may provide relief and make the symptom subside. To prevent bouts of nausea, you must avoid their triggers if possible. Heat, humidity, strong odors, and sea voyages are some things you’ll want to avoid. Consult with a doctor if you need.
