14 Symptoms Of Stroke (Early Warning Signs)

Numbness

Temporary tingling and numbness often occur when spending a considerable amount of time sitting in a cross-legged position or with your head resting on your arm. However, there are also cases wherein it can indicate the onset of specific medical conditions, such as neurological disorders, nerve damage, and transient ischemic strokes. It’s also one of the earliest and most common symptoms of multiple sclerosis.

Other health problems that affect the body’s central nervous systems may also trigger numbness, including but not necessarily limited to encephalitis, transverse myelitis, tumors, neck and back trauma, and magnesium deficiency. It’s also not uncommon for those with diabetes to have diabetic neuropathy, which may lead to discomfort and numbness in the lower extremities.

A deficiency of nutrients like vitamin B12 and pernicious anemia can damage the nerves due to reduced RBC levels and oxygen circulation. It’s a condition referred to as peripheral neuropathy. Moreover, some medications may cause the condition, such as heart and blood pressure drugs, chemotherapy, AIDS and HIV medication, anticonvulsants, and antibiotics. The treatment for numbness will be determined by what’s causing it. Positive lifestyle habits like a balanced diet, regular exercise, and stress management should be adopted to prevent its onset.
