Drinking too Much Alcohol
Another bad lifestyle habit that may increase one’s risk for stroke is excessive alcohol drinking. Alcoholism contributes to several conditions that are significant risk factors for the disease. It can cause high blood pressure, heart disease, and diabetes. In addition, when people drink too much alcohol, it can cause the liver to stop creating substances that help the blood to clot, which could lead to clotting disorders and bleeding in the brain.
But many other health issues are identified among heavy drinkers aside from an increased risk of early stroke. It may also cause high blood pressure, liver disease, heart ailments, digestive problems, cancer, mental health problems, and alcohol dependence.
According to experts, adults of legal age may choose to drink or not to drink alcohol. The recommended amount for those who choose to drink is two drinks or less for men and one drink or less for women. Although moderate consumption may promote some health benefits, experts believe it would still be safe to stay away from alcoholic beverages altogether. Instead, switching to a healthy lifestyle by eating a balanced diet and daily workouts can offer much greater benefits.
