Smoking
Smoking cigarettes is detrimental to one’s health in general. And the fact that it could double the likelihood of a stroke in individuals is saying something.
Tobacco smoke contains thousands of toxic chemicals, from nicotine to tar, acetone, and carbon monoxide. They are deposited in the lungs and later absorbed into the bloodstream, damaging the blood vessels. That’s how they cause a stroke.
But tobacco smoking causes other health issues like irreversible lung conditions like emphysema, lung cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and chronic bronchitis. It may also cause pancreatic, mouth, and larynx cancer. Smoking can also affect both male and female’s reproductive systems because nicotine may disrupt blood flow to the genital areas. Suffice it to say there are more reasons for people to quit smoking than just preventing a stroke.
Being tobacco-free is beneficial. Unfortunately, those inhaling second-hand smoke are as vulnerable to impending health risks as the smoker.
