Have Anti-Cancer Properties
Spirulina may be a promising source of cancer-fighting compounds. The nutrient appears to have an overall positive effect on the body, including protecting against various cancers.
The idea that spirulina can help fight cancer is not new. For example, a study of workers regularly exposed to toxic chemicals found that those who took spirulina experienced less damage to their immune systems than those who did not. In addition, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has approved spirulina as an effective agent in reducing the risk of contracting cancer.
In addition to these health benefits, spirulina may also have anti-cancer properties due to its high antioxidant content. The United States National Library of Medicine says that antioxidants can prevent cancer from occurring by neutralizing the free radicals produced by everyday cellular processes.
