Hot Toddy
Hot Toddy is a popular drink that seemed to originate from India, then made its way to England. The word “toddy” is derived from the Hindu word taddy, a drink made with fermented palm sap. However, the hot toddy of today is known for the variation made from the mixture of alcohol, hot water, lemon, spices, and sugar.
A hot toddy is a hot fruit drink that may provide immediate and long-lasting relief from cold and flu symptoms, including sore throat. It also contains other ingredients like honey and lemon are known to have soothing properties that can help with the discomfort felt due to sore throat. This makes hot toddy a popular natural home remedy for relieving sore throat pain.
To make a hot toddy, add ¾ cup of hot water, 1 ½ ounce of whiskey, 2 to 3 teaspoons of honey, and 2 to 3 teaspoons of lemon juice. Mix well and serve warm. The amount of honey and lemon juice can be adjusted to the preferred taste. Since hot toddy contains alcohol, it is not suitable to drink it when drinking prescribed and over-the-counter medications.
