Tumors
The human body can be a complex web of interconnected systems, and a domino effect can occur when one part is not functioning properly. For example, in the case of throat soreness, there are several common reasons, but one of the most common reasons for this symptom is a tumor on the thyroid gland, also known as a goiter.
Sore throats are often caused by swollen lymph nodes infected with bacteria or viruses. Tumors on the thyroid gland can cause a sore throat by pressing against the salivary glands in the neck, resulting in a more severe sore throat than normal. Additionally, if these tumors have grown large enough, they can block the esophagus (the tube that connects the mouth to the stomach). This will often result in an inability to swallow, which can cause pain like a sore throat.
Infection most commonly causes tumors on the thyroid gland on the vocal cords or parathyroid glands, infecting the thyroid itself. These infections come from cancerous cells that have spread from other areas of the body and into your neck. As these tumors grow and press against nearby areas, they can cause additional symptoms, including muscle weakness and difficulty swallowing food.
