Lack of Energy
Feeling tired all the time can be frustrating. It can make it difficult to get through the day at work and home. If an individual struggles with fatigue and wonders what’s causing it, lack of sleep is a common culprit.
When an individual does not get enough sleep, it can lead to a decrease in energy levels. This is because sleep is essential for restoring and replenishing the body’s stores of glycogen, a type of sugar used for energy. During sleep, the body can restore glycogen levels that have been depleted during the day. Therefore, when an individual doesn’t get enough sleep, the glycogen levels remain low, leading to fatigue and low energy levels.
Sleep deprivation can also lead to changes in cortisol levels, which are responsible for regulating energy levels. Cortisol is a stress hormone released by the adrenal glands in response to perceived danger or stress. Under normal circumstances, cortisol levels should rise in the morning and fall throughout the day. When someone is sleep-deprived, cortisol levels may stay elevated throughout the day, which can lead to feelings of fatigue and low energy.
