What Could Trigger Skin Tags? 15 Possible Causes

Insulin Resistance

Insulin resistance is a condition where the body has trouble absorbing glucose, a form of sugar used for energy by the body’s cells. Insulin resistance occurs when cells fail to take up glucose from the bloodstream properly, so it builds up and cannot be used as energy.

The liver converts this excess glucose into fat and deposits it around the body. In some cases, this buildup of fat can lead to insulin resistance because the body doesn’t have enough insulin to process all this extra fat produced by the liver. If an individual has insulin resistance and develops skin tags, they will contain high-fat tissue levels that may make them more susceptible to irritation or inflammation.
