UVB Phototherapy
UVB phototherapy is a light therapy that uses ultraviolet B (UVB) light to treat conditions like psoriasis and vitiligo. It has also been found to be effective in treating seborrheic dermatitis. This type of therapy works by slowing the growth of skin cells and reducing inflammation.
UVB phototherapy treatments are usually done in a doctor’s office or other medical settings. A nurse or other medical professional will apply a gel to the affected area and expose you to the UVB light for a set time. The length of time will depend on the severity of the symptoms.
There are two types of UVB phototherapy, namely, broad-band and narrow-band. Broad-band UVB uses a wider range of ultraviolet light than narrow-band UVB. However, narrow-band UVB is more effective in treating certain skin conditions, including seborrheic dermatitis.
Most people experience improvement after just a few sessions of UVB phototherapy. However, some people may need maintenance treatments to keep their symptoms under control. Maintenance treatments are usually done once or twice a week.
