Fatigue and Malaise
For many people, seasonal allergies are just a minor annoyance. However, for others, they can be a major source of fatigue and malaise. There are a few ways in which seasonal allergies can lead to fatigue. When the body fights an allergic reaction, it expends energy. This can leave people feeling tired and run down.
Seasonal allergies often cause insomnia. Some people experience waking up several times a night because they can’t breathe or are up all night sneezing. It’s no wonder they feel exhausted during the day. Finally, seasonal allergies can cause anxiety and depression, contributing to fatigue.
It is recommended to take allergy medication as prescribed by the doctor. Ask a doctor or pharmacist for advice if you’re unsure what kind of medication is right for you. It is also recommended to avoid being outdoors when pollen levels are high. This is usually early in the morning and late in the afternoon or evening. And finally, make sure the home is as dust- and pollen-free as possible by vacuuming regularly and keeping windows closed during high pollen periods.
