Devil’s Claw
The devil’s claw plant has been used for its medicinal properties for centuries. Native to Africa, the plant is now found all over the world. The roots and leaves of the plant are used to make teas, tinctures, and extracts, which are thought to help with various ailments, including pain relief.
Recently, there has been renewed interest in the potential pain-relieving benefits of devil’s claw, particularly for those suffering from sciatica. In one study, researchers looked at the effects of devil’s claw on patients with sciatica who were between the ages of 30 and 60. After four weeks of treatment, those who took devil’s claw extract reported significant improvements in sciatica symptoms compared to those who took a placebo.
There is no standard dosage for devil’s claw when treating sciatica pain. However, most experts recommend taking two to three cups of tea daily or 30 to 60 drops of liquid extract form 3 times daily. When using the powdered form of devil’s claw, the recommended dosage is 500 mg three times per day. It’s important to start with a lower dosage and increase gradually as needed so the body can adjust to the herb.
