Sitting Spinal Stretch
Besides being the longest nerve in the body, the sciatic nerve extends from the lower back down to the feet. Compression or irritation of the sciatic nerve can cause pain, numbness, and tingling in the lower back, hips, and legs.
The sitting spinal stretch is an effective exercise that can help alleviate sciatica symptoms by stretching and lengthening the spine. This stretch can be done on the floor or in a chair, making it an ideal exercise for people of all fitness levels.
To perform this spinal, start by sitting with the legs crossed and the back straight. You can do this exercise seated on the floor or in a chair. Next, reach your arms overhead, interlace your fingers, and lengthen your spine. Lean to one side, feeling a stretch along the whole side body. Hold for 30 seconds, then repeat on the other side. Next, hinge forward at your hips and round your back, reaching your arms toward your feet. Hold for 30 seconds, then release back to starting position. Finally, arch your back and reach your arms overhead, looking up toward the ceiling. Hold for 30 seconds, then release back to starting position. Repeat this sequence two to three times.
