Sitting Spine Twist
This seated posture twists the spine, opens the shoulders, and lengthens the side body. Although it’s a simple posture, a sitting spine twist provides many benefits, including relief from sciatica-related pain and other symptoms.
This posture can also help improve spinal mobility and flexibility in individuals with sciatica. It also stimulates the internal organs, thus contributing to one’s general well-being. Besides physical pain relief, the Sitting Spine Twist can alleviate stress and delay fatigue. It is a relaxation-inducing stretch that establishes a sense of calm when performed regularly.
When performing the sitting spine twist, flex your right knee and bring your right heel toward your left hip crease. Then, cross the right ankle over your left thigh. If you’re having trouble keeping your back straight, place your right hand behind the floor for support. Next, inhale and lengthen your spine. As you exhale, twist toward your left from your lower back up through your neck and gaze over your left shoulder. Continue breathing deeply as you hold this position for five to ten breaths.
