Fights Hepatitis B Infection
Hepatitis B refers to the liver infection triggered by an HBV infection. While the condition can be short-term and resolve itself without further treatment, some forms are chronic and may lead to liver cancer and cirrhosis if left unchecked. It’s a significant worldwide health concern, with almost nine hundred thousand liver diseases caused by the infection globally in 2015. For most, HBV is acute and doesn’t cause any permanent damage. However, two to six percent of adults develop chronic diseases that lead to complications.
It isn’t common for symptoms of hepatitis B to present in its early stages. However, when it does, it usually includes fever, joint pain, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, appetite loss, abdominal pain, dark-colored urine, clay-colored stools, and jaundice. Transmission of the disease may occur during sexual activities, unsafe tattoo practices, and sharing hygiene items. It’s also worth noting that the virus can’t spread through water or food, breastfeeding, coughing, sneezing, or insect bites.
While there isn’t a cure for HBV, vaccines exist to prevent its initial infection. With antiviral medication, chronic infections can be treated. Moreover, while further clinical studies are needed, preliminary research suggests the efficacy of reishi mushrooms in treating hepatitis B viral infections.
