Gum Grafting
Another surgical procedure that a dentist may recommend in case of conditions like gum recession is gum grafting. The need will determine each type of gum graft procedure. These include connective tissue, free gingival, and pedicle grafts. After the process, you may be given a sedative by your dentist. In this case, you may have to make arrangements so someone else can drive you home.
Moreover, specific instructions will be given regarding post-operative care, including medications to take, your diet, and physical activity. For example, you mustn’t brush or floss the line of gum until it fully heals, or it may cause damage. In addition, a mouth rinse and an antibiotic will be recommended to control the plaque as you recover from the operation. For a couple of weeks, it’s recommended to stick to cool and soft foods, such as pasta, Jell-O, yogurt, eggs, cottage cheese, ice cream, bread, soup, and soft-cooked or steamed vegetables.
The level of pain you’ll feel after the procedure will also be determined by the gum grafting type performed. If tissue isn’t removed from the palate, there should only be minimal discomfort. Conversely, any tissues removed will result in some pain following the operation.
