Lower Libido
Libido is defined as the person’s overall sexual drive and desire for sexual activity. It is affected by various social, psychological, and biological factors. Men and women have sexual desires and urge. According to scientists, there’s no such thing as an abnormal libido. However, if the person feels that there’s a lessening of the sexual drive and is no longer excited by the prospect of sexual activities, they can subjectively say that they have a decreased libido.
The same biochemical and neural pathways are involved in such primal reproductive urges for males and females. As we know, neurotransmitters are made of amino acids, essential protein components. Therefore, if a person doesn’t consume enough protein in their diet, there’s a significant chance that the neurotransmitters can be compromised. When this happens, the supply of hormones such as progesterone, testosterone, and estrogen declines and affects the sexual drive.
For people experiencing diminished libido, it will be best to consume more high-protein food such as chicken, beef, and pork because of carnitine, zinc, and L-arginine. In addition, eating salmon, sardines, and other foods rich in omega-3 acids will also help keep blood flow healthy.
