Stress
Stress is a natural body reaction that responds to pressure or threat. This reaction usually takes place during situations or events that are unmanageable or uncontrollable. However, too much stress affects the overall body’s health. For example, it can increase the risk of diseases and increase the production of hormones to sustain the body’s needed energy.
One of the hormones produced by the body undergoing stress is cortisol. Cortisol is known as the primary stress hormone. Its main function is to regulate the body in response to stress. It also helps the body to control the use of body fats, proteins, and carbohydrates. This function is also called controlling the metabolism. Generally, cortisol is beneficial to the body, but it may lower the immune system’s effectiveness in fighting viruses like HPV.
The suppression of the immune system due to cortisol hinders the body from fighting HPV, leading to the appearance of plantar warts. As the cortisol continues to increase, plantar warts will also spread. That’s why recent studies have concluded that stress could cause plantar war due to the overproduction of cortisol.
