Plantar Fasciitis: The 13 Best Treatments You Should Know

Walking Cast

A walking cast is also known as a below-knee walker or BKW. It is an orthopedic device that helps stabilize the lower leg and foot. This device allows an individual to walk without putting weight on the heel. This can help remove the pressure off the plantar fascia and allow it to heal correctly.

A walking cast comprises the upper cuff around the calf and a lower plinth that surrounds the foot and ankle. Two aluminum struts connect these two parts. The lower plinth has wheels so a user can move the device forward as you walk.

Using a walking cast is relatively simple. First, it must be placed on the upper cuff and secured around your calf with velcro straps. Then, put yout foot into the lower plinth and secure it with velcro straps. Once both straps are secure, you can start moving the BKW forward so they can walk. It is crucial to keep the BKW clean to avoid infection.
