Albendazole
If you think you have them, don’t panic. You’re not alone. It’s estimated that up to one-quarter of the world population is infected with pinworms at any given time. Fortunately, getting rid of them is relatively simple. Albendazole is an oral medication used to treat various parasitic infections caused by roundworms and flukes. It kills the parasites in the gut so they can no longer live or lay eggs there. This helps to relieve symptoms and eradicate the infection. However, it’s important to note that albendazole will only work against parasites that live in the intestine. It will not kill those living outside the body, such as head lice.
For most parasitic infections, such as pinworms, albendazole is taken for 5 to 7 days. The exact length of treatment depends on the type of infection an individual has and how well they respond to the medication. In some cases, such as with certain types of tapeworms, a second dose may be needed 2 to 4 weeks after the first one. It is recommended to follow the doctor’s instructions carefully when taking this medication.
