What Are The Triggers Of Petechiae? 10 Common Causes

Blood Disorder

Blood disorders, including Hemolytic-uremic syndrome (HUS) and Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP), are also believed to be among the many causes of the appearance of rash-like petechiae in the different parts of the body.

One such blood disorder is aplastic anemia, a type of anemia resulting from problems with blood cell production in the bone marrow. Aplastic anemia is a disorder affecting the production of red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets, resulting in other conditions. One of the common side effects or symptoms of blood disorders like aplastic anemia is the appearance of what is known as an anemia rash. These anemia rashes aren’t exactly rashes but red or purple dots resulting from bleeding blood vessels under the skin due to low platelet count.

Yet another blood disorder resulting in the appearance of petechiae is Thrombocytopenia. Thrombocytopenia is the condition of deficient platelet levels causing problems with blood clots. It usually results in easy bruising and bloody noses, gums, pee, or poop. Like aplastic anemia, such problems sometimes cause damage to the blood vessels, resulting in blood leaks under the skin.

Just like thrombocytopenia, leukemia is also a blood disorder that exhibits petechiae as one of its symptoms. It is known as leukemia spots and is usually found to resemble atopic dermatitis in the arms, midsection, buttocks, and legs.
