Grapefruit Seed Extract

Grapefruit seed extract, or citrus seed extract, is derived from the grapefruit’s pulp, seeds, and white membranes. Manufacturers grind the grapefruit seeds and pulp and mix them with glycerin to create grapefruit seed extract. These substances are typically used as dietary supplements and in cosmetics production.

Grapefruit seed extract (GSE) is another alternative and effective treatment option for people suffering from perioral dermatitis. The extract is an efficient skin cleanser as it removes bacteria and toxins from the face. They are also a great source of antioxidants which are effective against tissue damage, oxidative stress, and inflammation.

As perioral dermatitis is an inflammation of the skin around the mouth, individuals who suffer from the condition can use GSE oil as an alternative option if they don’t want to use prescription antibiotics or other topical ointments and creams. They can mix a few drops of GSE oil with water and combine them completely. They can also use coconut oil which also boasts antimicrobial properties. Then, they can apply the mixture directly to the affected area by massaging it and leaving it overnight. If they take GSE in capsule form, they must drink it one to three times daily.
