PMS Bloating
Bloating is one of the most common signs of PMS. This condition can make the abdomen feel swollen and heavy. Most women reported having experienced bloating two weeks before their period started. Period bloating can negatively affect the patient’s physical and psychological well-being. In fact, 4 out of 10 women reported having low self-esteem because they feel like they have gained extra pounds. However, experts explained that the weight gain caused by bloating is not permanent and will naturally disappear after the first day of the period.
Like other symptoms, PMS bloating is caused by changes in the levels of estrogen and progesterone in the body. In relation to this, recent studies suggest that these hormonal changes can make the body retain more salt and water. The excess water and salt can cause cellular inflammation, making the patient feel full and bloated.
Fortunately, this symptom can be prevented by doing simple remedies. For example, eating less salty foods, drinking lots of water, exercising regularly, and adding more diuretics to the diet is proven effective against PMS bloating.
