Increase in Body Weight
A sudden increase in body weight, even without any drastic changes in lifestyle and diet, is often an indicator of an underlying health condition. For example, some patients who suddenly gain weight are diagnosed with diabetes, mental health conditions, heart failure, insomnia, and PCOS. Women with PCOS often notice something wrong with their bodies because of this symptom.
Patients with PCOS suffer from hormonal imbalances and abnormal metabolic processes, leading to unexplainable weight gain. Moreover, experts explained that the overproduction of male hormones in the female body triggers the muscles to store more fats. The same thing happens due to insulin resistance.
A study in Iowa showed that more than 50 percent of patients with PCOS also suffer from psychological and mood disorders. These conditions include binge eating disorder, anxiety, and depression. The researchers explained that all the symptoms and hormonal changes are more likely to affect the patient’s mental health. A woman experiencing any of these conditions is more likely to overlook herself. As a result, she tends to lose her motivation to be fit and healthy, leading to weight gain.
