Skin Problems
Skin tags or acrochordons are soft and tiny nonmalignant skin growths that develop underneath the skin in various areas such as the armpit, groin, and neck. They feel like soft, deflated balloons about the size of a rice grain. Skin tags are common but often neglected skin problems. In fact, according to the NIH or National Institute of Health, 46 percent of Americans (mostly women) have multiple skin tags.
Although skin tags are generally harmless, they often indicate an underlying health condition, like PCOS. Female patients are advised to watch out for skin tags under the breasts since they usually indicate hormonal imbalances. Aside from skin tags, patients with PCOS can also experience acne breakouts, dry skin, itchiness, and inflammation in different areas of the body. Patients also complain about the appearance of dark, thick, and velvety patches of skin all over their bodies. This sudden changes in their appearance can affect the patient’s self-esteem.
This is why experts always remind patients to look for sudden changes in their skin conditions because the skin is believed to mirror what’s happening inside the body.
