Low Sex Drive
PCOS can manifest in a series of unpleasant symptoms, making patients feel hopeless. One of these symptoms is low sex drive. Recent studies show that patients with PCOS experience sexual dysfunction, leading to low satisfaction regarding their sex life. In a study conducted in 2020, 60 percent of patients with PCOS testified to have no sexual desire and little to no arousal. Low sex drive can greatly affect the patient’s relationship, self-esteem, and quality of life.
These changes in the sexual appetite of the patients are due to the overproduction of androgens. Excessive androgens are proven to negatively affect women’s natural lubrication, satisfaction, desire, and sex drive. Moreover, most women with PCOS experience low libido because of their emotional and physical pain during sexual intercourse.
Medications and lifestyle changes can help improve libido and regulate hormones. However, it is best to consult a doctor to ensure that the patient gets the right help and treatment she needs.
