Breast Tenderness
Cyclic breast tenderness is usually noted on the days leading up to menstruation. It is called cyclic because it occurs regularly and is related to one’s menstrual cycle. For some women, the same breast tenderness can also happen around the time of ovulation. This is because the initial rise in estrogen, followed by a rise in progesterone, contributes to swollen breasts and breast tenderness during ovulation.
Some may complain of discomfort while doing their regular workouts, such as jogging or running, and jumping movements may be more challenging during this time. As a result, a woman may find herself skipping her regular workout. Even driving through a bumpy road may cause extreme discomfort to some.
Avoiding strenuous activities during this time may give some pain relief. Taking over-the-counter pain medications may also benefit some with low pain tolerance. Tenderness does not last long and may be noted during the days before and after ovulation.
Some women may also complain of swollen breasts accompanying tenderness. It may be helpful to avoid wearing tight-fitting undergarments and tops at this time to avoid any added pressure on the area.
