Pain During Sex
Pain during sex is one of the most common symptoms of ovarian cysts. It’s usually due to cysts pressing on the ovary or fallopian tube. The pain can range from mild to severe and can be debilitating if you experience it regularly.
Pain during intercourse is considered one of the most common symptoms of an ovarian cyst, a mass that forms on or attaches to the ovary. There are different types of cysts, which can occur for various reasons. The most common type of cyst that develops on the ovary is a functional cyst, which occurs in women 30 to 40.
When an egg fails to release from the ovary and becomes stuck, fluid builds up under the surface of the ovaries and causes a small amount of swelling and pain. A functional cyst generally lasts about two weeks because blood and fluid will reabsorb after this time, and the mass will disappear. However, if it remains present, then it may be a sign of a more severe condition.
There are also non-functional or pathological cysts that may cause pain during intercourse. These types of cysts last for a more extended period than functional ones and may need to be treated by surgery. A non-functional ovarian cyst may also cause bloating around the abdomen area.
If you are experiencing pain during sex, you must contact a doctor as soon as possible. A physician may want to perform an ultrasound diagnosis to determine whether or not a cyst is present in the ovaries and what type it might be.
