Prescription Antifungal Medications
Oral thrush is a yeast infection that can worsen if left untreated, so it’s treated with anti-fungal medications prescribed by a doctor. Two prescription anti-fungal medications for treating oral candidiasis are nystatin and fluconazole. Nystatin is available over the counter, while fluconazole requires a prescription.
Both nystatin and fluconazole are in liquid form and come in either an oral syringe or dropper bottle for easy administration. They can also be taken as a tablet, but they may be more challenging for some people to swallow than the liquid option.
While oral thrush is not necessarily serious in and of itself, it can be unsightly and uncomfortable while it lasts.
