What Causes Necrotizing Fasciitis? 12 Causes To Consider

Unsanitized Facilities and Bodies of Water

Public pools, hot tubs, and natural bodies of water contain harmful bacteria. These bacteria can enter the body and spread infectious diseases like flesh-eating diseases. An example of bacteria is Vibrio vulnificus, a bacterium in bodies of water that can also cause necrotizing fasciitis.

The bacteria can enter the body through an open wound. Doctors advise those with open injuries to be cautious in bodies of water and public pools, for they may be contaminated. If the chemicals such as chlorine and its pH level are not held to their proper level, the bacteria build-up may worsen and multiply faster.

If the situation calls, cover the wound well before submerging it in bodies of water, public pools, and hot tubs. Wash and clean the infected area thoroughly after the submersion. But it would be safe to avoid direct contact with these unsanitized facilities and bodies of water, especially after acquiring an injury or surgical wound.
