All ulcers, including mouth ulcers, are triggered by conditions such as Crohn’s disease, iron deficiency, and a weakened immune system. Crohn’s disease is described as an inflammatory bowel disease that causes swelling in the digestive tract. Most people who have Crohn’s disease have mouth ulcers as a symptom. Sometimes, mouth ulcers are the first sign of this disease or a reaction to a drug that cures Crohn’s disease.
On the other hand, iron deficiency affects oral health. Teeth, gums, and tissues found in the mouth depend on vitamins and nutrients to function well. Iron helps to keep healthy gum and soft tissues. Oral health will be affected if vitamins and nutrients are insufficient, leading to diseases such as mouth ulcers.
A weak immune system is also a cause of mouth ulcers. The immune system acts like a protector against invaders like bacteria, fungi, and viruses. These invaders may also trigger mouth ulcers in the body. A weakened immune system may fail to maintain a healthy oral cavity.
