Balances the Gut Microbiome
MCT or medium-chain triglyceride oils have natural anti-bacterial properties that may help balance the gut’s good and bad bacteria. Some of the known bacteria that medium-chain fats can kill are streptococcus, which causes strep throat, pneumonia, and sinus infections; staphylococcus, which can cause food poisoning and urinary tract infections; Neisseria, which can cause meningitis; and some strains that can cause stomach viruses, candida, ulcers, and STD.
Another property of MCT is that it can reduce bad bacteria without compromising the good ones. This will keep the balance in the gut health. It can be beneficial because good bacteria maintain intestinal function. This is why several studies suggest using MCT oil instead of anti-bacterial medications, which also kill beneficial bacteria in the gut. However, deeper comparative studies are still needed to solidify this claim.
