Rapid Heart Rate
Another hallmark of uncontrollable mast cell activation is heart trouble. One of the most common cardiovascular symptoms MCAS patients complain about is rapid heart rate. But others also report slow heart rates. Changes in blood pressure levels may also occur shortly after the other. Some patients also report localized chest pain, which doesn’t radiate down the arm. All these symptoms are known to have no apparent trigger.
Many of the common effects of MCAS in the heart and blood vessels may be associated with other conditions. Therefore, the patient must undergo recommended diagnostic procedures to identify what is causing their troubles to apply the necessary treatment and avoid worsening symptoms, leading to life-threatening situations.
MCAS is often diagnosed through the typical manifestations of mast cell activation in key organs in the body, including the skin, lungs, gastrointestinal tract, and heart. If the symptoms of recurrent allergic episodes are present, the patient may undergo blood and urine tests, physical exams, and even a bone marrow test to confirm the diagnosis.
