Runny Nose
Mast cells may also collect in the nose, including the cavities and passages of the sinuses. When that happens, it may cause congestion, ulcers, and inflammation. A runny nose is a common complaint among patients with MCAS. It’s the typical manifestation of mast cells densely concentrated on the nose.
But all those nose complaints are common in other conditions as well. For example, congestion, runny nose, and mucus may be caused by temperature changes and common allergies. Mostly, they clear up by drinking plenty of fluids and taking as much rest as possible. People may also ease symptoms by using a nasal spray and adding a cool-mist humidifier within the surroundings to deal with cold, dry air.
How do people know if it is a typical runny nose or a symptom caused by MCAS? If it does not clear within ten days and reoccurs without any known cause, a visit to a medical expert is recommended. Doctors should help diagnose what is causing the symptoms and treat them before they become severe.
