Great for Adding Catechins
Catechins are a polyphenol type with many health benefits, including lowering the risk of heart disease and cancer. Catechins can be found in tea leaves and other plants, but matcha gets its green color and catechins from the tea plant Camellia sinensis. Matcha is also packed with antioxidants like chlorophyll, polyphenols (also known as flavonoids), vitamins, minerals, and amino acids.
You can incorporate catechin-rich foods into your diet by drinking matcha as an alternative to coffee or sodas in the morning instead of grabbing breakfast on the go, but it’s important to note that there isn’t a recommended daily amount for catechins yet.
