Osteoporosis
If you are deficient in magnesium, your bones may suffer. Magnesium plays a crucial role in bone health and the absorption of calcium. So when they don’t get enough magnesium, it can lead to osteoporosis. Maintaining adequate levels of this mineral is especially important for people at risk for osteoporosis due to hormonal changes after menopause or significant surgery. A deficiency can also be caused by stress, poor diet (especially if it’s low in green leafy vegetables), alcohol consumption, or certain medications such as diuretics (water pills).
