Photodynamic Therapy
Photodynamic therapy is also known as PDT and is typically utilized as an additional treatment for the eyes if the anti-VEGF medication is not working as well as it should. Photodynamic therapy involves shining light at the back of the eyes to remove the blood vessels that could cause wet macular degeneration. In a typical scenario, macular degeneration is often treated enough by lifestyle choices and anti-VEGF injections to help keep the symptoms at bay and stop the disorder from progressing.
However, there are situations where a combination of poor lifestyle choices can lead to a case of macular degeneration that progresses more quickly. The result is a rapidly worsening eye condition that could lead to total vision loss if left unchecked. As such, the best course of action is to mix the injections and best-practice methods with photodynamic therapy to rid the eyes of abnormal blood vessels. Keep in mind that the eyes and the skin around the eyes will be vulnerable to sunlight and other light sources after photodynamic therapy. It’s best to speak with your doctor about quick and painless recovery.
