Retinal Damage
Retinal damage is the most common symptom of macular degeneration. The retina is a layer of tissue at the back of a person’s eye that acts as a light-sensitive layer. It helps them see by converting light into electrical signals sent through the optic nerve to the brain. Retinal damage can lead to vision loss if not treated promptly, which can be caused by macular degeneration.
Macular degeneration comes in two types – dry and wet. The most common type is dry macular degeneration, an age-related macular degeneration, accounting for approximately 90 percent of all cases. It is responsible for causing the majority of vision loss from macular degeneration.
