Reddish Eyes
Macular degeneration is a disease that commonly causes symptoms in the eyes. Reddish eyes are one of the most common signs of this eye disease. The retina, part of the back lining of the eye, can start to degenerate and cause several vision problems. As macular degeneration progresses, it can lead to a loss of central vision, which is necessary for seeing details and shapes and seeing things up close.
Reddish eyes are one of the signs of macular degeneration that occur when blood vessels become damaged in the macula (which is at the center of the retina). The macula controls our central vision, so damage to this area can lead to problems with reading, driving, and recognizing faces. Reddish eyes are a sign of more blood flow to this area because it suffers from damage. Increased blood flow leads to redness in the sclera (white portion).
