Flu-Like Symptoms
A person may also feel feverish and have chills and muscle aches. This is a classic symptom of Lyme disease in its early stages. However, flu-like symptoms can also occur with other infections, such as mononucleosis or the Epstein-Barr virus. Most patients who develop Lyme disease do not have this flu-like illness. Instead, they may notice a rash that starts as a small, red spot on their skin at the tick bite site. This rash may expand over several days to weeks and become raised and warm to the touch. In addition, patients often experience other symptoms such as headache, fatigue, muscle aches, and joint pain.
When it comes to self-diagnosing Lyme disease with flu-like symptoms, one should only automatically assume that it is caused by Lyme disease once other possibilities have been ruled out. However, if they suspect Lyme disease, it’s essential to see a doctor as soon as possible. Early treatment is the key to preventing long-term complications.
