High Blood Sugar
Diabetes is a disease that causes high blood sugar. Diabetes affects the body’s ability to use sugar properly. This happens when the pancreas doesn’t produce enough insulin or cells stop responding to insulin.
Clear correlations have been found between low testosterone levels and a litany of health problems, obesity and type 2 diabetes, to name a few, but the reason why they’re related isn’t always straightforward. For example, some believe low testosterone leads to these other conditions (and vice versa). Still, research supports that high blood sugar can cause low testosterone and related issues.
Several factors influence blood sugar levels in the body. The primary one is insulin sensitivity: how fast the body absorbs glucose from food sources into individual cells for energy production. If the body isn’t susceptible to insulin (i.e., if it doesn’t respond to the hormone very well), then glucose will build up in the bloodstream over time; this is called insulin resistance. Insulin resistance can be caused by genetics or an unhealthy diet, which can lead to diabetes.
