The 15 Causes of Low Testosterone (You Should Definitely Be Aware Of)

Male Pattern Baldness

Male pattern baldness, also known as androgenetic alopecia or hereditary hair loss, is a genetic condition that affects over 35 million men in the United States alone. About half of all men will experience some degree of hair loss by the time they reach age 50.

The cause of male pattern baldness is a hormone called dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is an androgen that causes the scalp to produce more and more follicles until, eventually, it reaches a point where there are an inadequate number of hairs left to cover the area once covered by healthy follicles. So, even though men have higher testosterone levels than women, female hormones can cause male pattern baldness too.
