Chemotherapy
Lymphocytes are white blood cells that play a vital role in the immune system. Chemotherapy can cause low lymphocytes because it affects the bone marrow, where all lymphocytes are produced. In addition to affecting the bone marrow, chemotherapy can also affect another essential part of the immune system: T cells. Some types of chemotherapy target these specialized immune cells directly, leaving patients more susceptible to infections and other complications for months or years after treatment ends.
