Radiation Therapy
Radiation therapy can lower a patient’s lymphocyte count, so keeping track of this type of treatment during a cancer journey is essential. If they are experiencing low counts, it could mean that something else is happening in addition to radiation therapy. Keep an eye out for symptoms like fatigue or fever and immediately report them to a doctor.
Radiation therapy can be used for non-cancerous conditions and cancer treatment. For example, it’s sometimes used for Hodgkin’s disease (and other types of lymphoma) because it targets the spleen directly so that chemotherapy can do its job more effectively.
Radiation therapy can also be combined with other treatments like chemotherapy and surgery. For example, when combined with surgery to remove a tumor, radiation therapy helps get rid of any remaining cells after surgery has been completed.
