Myeloma
Myeloma is a cancer of plasma cells, part of the immune system. Plasma cells typically produce antibodies to fight infection, but they can make too many antibodies that attack healthy cells and damage the bones and other tissues when they become cancerous. As a result, in the United States, myeloma affects about 20 times more people than Hodgkin lymphoma (the most common blood cancer) each year.
This disease is more common in men than women and tends to affect older people; most individuals with this condition have been diagnosed before age 60. However, it can occur at any age, even as early as childhood or adolescence.
