Breathlessness and Feeling Faint on Exertion
A person with has low ferritin level can cause breathlessness and feel faint on exertion. This is because the body isn’t getting enough oxygenated blood to the brain. In other words, the blood doesn’t have enough iron to transport oxygen effectively throughout the body.
It’s the same reason people with anemia often feel tired and weak. They aren’t getting enough oxygen to their muscles and organs, which makes them unable to do things they usually could without much effort (like walking up stairs or carrying groceries).
Low ferritin can also lead to a lack of oxygen reaching the brain—and unfortunately, if this happens too often over a long period (which can occur if a person doesn’t maintain high levels), they may eventually faint or pass out altogether.
