Chronic Hunger
If a person is struggling with a feeling of hunger, low ferritin could be to blame. This condition can cause an increase in appetite, as well as feelings of nausea and weakness.
Chronic hunger is not just inconvenient; it’s also potentially dangerous. The National Institutes of Health warns that some people with low ferritin are at increased risk for heart disease and diabetes because they have difficulty metabolizing glucose (sugar). So if they find themselves craving food more often than usual, they should talk to a doctor about whether or not they should get their iron levels tested and treated.
