15 Common Causes of Loss Of Balance You Shouldn’t Ignore

Blood Pressure Changes

Many experiences occasional lightheadedness or dizziness and blame it on low blood sugar or not drinking enough water. However, there are other more serious causes of dizziness, such as a drop in blood pressure.

Some people have what’s known as low-pressure hypertension. This occurs when there is normal systolic reading but elevated diastolic readings. While this may not seem serious, it can be pretty dangerous. That’s because it often goes undetected until it leads to more serious health problems, such as heart disease.

So how can low blood pressure cause loss of balance? According to Harvard Health Publishing, sudden blood pressure drops can abruptly slow the brain’s circulation. When this happens, one may also experience what’s known as orthostatic hypotension, which is a sudden drop in blood pressure when you stand up from lying down or sitting. This can cause you to feel faint or even vomit. The body usually adapts quickly to changes in position. For hypotensive individuals, it may take longer for the brain to adjust when switching positions quickly.

Low blood pressure is often harmless. However, for individuals who experience loss of balance and dizziness frequently, it is best to see a doctor so that they can rule out any underlying health conditions.
